CHAPTER 1
Jimmy moaned.
He parked the car in the mall parking lot and stepped out.
“Wait!” I jumped out as he locked the doors.
We walked around the car and our hands met.
Jess had her foot propped on her backpack and he spine on the wall. Her arms wavered over her head, signaling us.
Her black hair, tied in a ribbon, reached her chin and her contacts were purple. There were chains attached to everything she was wearing, up to the black fishnet sleeves, down to the big, black, baggy pants she wore. A huge silver stud was in her eyebrow, it matched the labret she wore in her lip. The plugs in her ears were a vibrant purple.
“Caity and the fat elderly man approach the Mall doors.
“Shut up.” Jimmy stated smoothly, “You’re being a freak, Jessica Moore.”
“Don’t say my full name.” She kicked him in the shin.
He scowled and walked into the Mall without us.
“C’mon! He left us already.” Jess picked up her bag and we walked into the glass doors.
“-IT!” Jimmy finished cussing, he lay on the ground, a pool of blood around him.
“What the hell happened?” Jess asked, the worry in her voice hidden.
“My knife opened in my pocket and cut me.” He squealed, squeezing his leg.
I ushered him up and led him into the unisex bathroom.
“Take off the pants.”
He argued with me.
“Now, Jimmy, or I’ll-”
He shooed me off and took off his pants. Thank God he was wearing shorts underneath the blood-stained pants.
I took a tiny bottle of peroxide out of my purse and twisted the cap open. To my knowledge, it was still full, but of course, one of those Miller kids probably drank it. I hope they did. That’d be great.
“None. Let’s wash it off.”
“NO!” I didn’t listen to his pleas. I took his legs and soaked it in the bathroom sink.
Now, as you may believe, Sea Monsters aren’t real, and to my big fat head, they aren’t, but in this case, I had done the dumbest thing possible. I should’ve listened to him beg not to wash his wound, but I did, and anyways, the results were horrifying.
A slimy green tentacle grew from the wound.
Jimmy pushed me back and took out the knife.
“WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?”
He sliced the tip of the tentacle. I wriggled and squealed, but got smaller and smaller until is finally disappeared into the scar.
“EW! OH MY GOD! HELP-”
“Shush.” Jimmy tightened his hand around my face until I calmed down.
“When I have contact with water,” Jimmy continued, “I turn into a sea monster, and I can’t control myself unless I kill the thing as soon as it appears.”
“So that’s why you don’t drink water anymore.” I turned around. Jess had been watching… the whole time.
Jimmy nodded.
“Jess! You were watching us?”
“Well, my friend just carried a full grown man into a teeny restroom. I thought that you’d want help.”
I growled.
Of course, she had to follow… Sometimes I just want to…
“Hey, let’s go eat. Eric said he’d be there.” Jess changed the subject as Jimmy put his legs into his pants.
“Eric?” Jimmy cocked his head.
“Yeah, he’s my new boyfriend.”
“WHAT?” Jimmy, Eric’s cousin, screeched.
CHAPTER 2
Jess was leading us into the food court.
She pointed to the table inhabited by one of the prettiest boys in the world.
